When is the 2024 Democratic National Convention? Here’s what to know after Biden’s exit from the race.

Following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, significant attention is now focused on the upcoming Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago. Biden, 81, announced his withdrawal in a letter to Americans, stating it was in the best interest of the country and his party for him to step aside and focus on his presidential duties for the remainder of his term.

Biden’s decision comes after enduring substantial pressure from party leaders and a poor performance in a debate against former President Donald Trump on June 27. Trump recently secured the Republican nomination at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, announcing Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate.

The Democratic National Convention is scheduled for August 19-22 in Chicago, marking the first time the city will host the event since 1996 when Bill Clinton was nominated for his second term. At the DNC, Democratic Party delegates will gather to officially nominate the presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2024 election, with delegates voting based on primary election results.

With Biden’s exit, Vice President Kamala Harris has been endorsed by Biden as the Democratic nominee. The campaign, formerly Biden for President, has rebranded to Harris for President, allowing Harris to take control of Biden’s campaign funds and start raising money for her presidential bid. In his statement, former President Barack Obama commended Biden’s decision, highlighting his selflessness but did not mention Harris, who is now the frontrunner for the nomination.

Trump, in an interview with CNN following Biden’s announcement, expressed his expectation to run against Harris and predicted a victory. The political landscape is now poised for significant developments as the Democratic Party prepares for the DNC and the forthcoming election campaign.
