UPDATE: Highway 22 to Reopen Soon as Situation Stabilizes
The Manawa Police Department announced on Facebook that the situation has stabilized, and Highway 22 will reopen soon. Residents can return home but are advised to drive cautiously and avoid standing water. However, Beech Street and parts of County Highway N and B near the rodeo grounds and Cemetery Road remain closed.
Following severe flooding in Manawa, public health officials have issued a Boil Water Advisory for the city and surrounding areas. This advisory means that tap water should be boiled for at least five minutes before drinking, food preparation, or making ice. Boiled water should not be used for infants or expectant mothers; bottled water is recommended for these individuals.
Officials emphasized this precautionary measure will remain until water testing confirms safety. Residents should discard ice and beverages made with unboiled tap water and consider using bottled water for personal needs like brushing teeth.
Authorities reported major damage to the Manawa Dam, although it has not completely broken. Evacuation sites have been established at the Manawa Masonic Center and Little Wolf High School. Those along the evacuation route should shelter in place, and the Manawa Community Living Center is being evacuated to the King Veteran’s Home.
This situation is ongoing, and updates will be provided by Local 5 News. Residents near the Manawa Dam are urged to evacuate due to continued heavy rain and severe flooding. The National Weather Service in Green Bay has issued a flash flood emergency for parts of central Waupaca County, including Manawa, Ogdensburg, and Symco, until 2:30 p.m. on Friday. At 12:20 p.m., the City of Manawa announced on Facebook that all city entrances were blocked off, advising the public not to drive into or around the city.
