Car Crash into Deer Park, Long Island Nail Salon Leaves 4 Dead and 9 Injured

DEER PARK, Long Island (WABC) — A tragic accident occurred when a minivan crashed into a nail salon in Deer Park, Long Island, killing four people and injuring nine others. The incident happened at Hawaii Nail and Spa, located at 796 Grand Blvd., around 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

The minivan drove straight through the strip-mall business, causing significant damage. Deer Park Fire Department Assistant Chief Dominic Albanese described the scene as devastating for the community and the volunteer fire department, especially during a time of year filled with celebrations like graduations.

The crash left a large hole in the front of the salon, with the inside strewn with mangled pedicure chairs. Valerie Fisher, a customer who had visited the salon the day before, expressed her shock and sorrow over the incident.

Assistant Chief Albanese confirmed that some people were trapped inside the salon and had to be extricated and transported to local hospitals. The driver of the minivan was also taken to the hospital and was partially conscious.

Eyewitnesses, including Danielle Tanis, reported that the minivan driver had been trying to pass another vehicle in the Kohl’s parking lot before crashing into the salon, causing chaos and panic as people inside screamed for help. Police were on the scene interviewing potential witnesses.

Friends and relatives of the victims, including a man who identified himself as the brother of one of the salon’s owners, expressed their grief. Customers described the owners as a beloved couple who were well-liked in the community.

All four fatalities were individuals inside the salon. Valerie Fisher reflected on the fragility of life, emphasizing how quickly it can change. The names of the victims have not yet been released, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
