A brush fire in San Bernardino has destroyed several homes and prompted evacuation orders for residents.

In San Bernardino, a hillside fire, known as the Edgehill Fire, has burned through at least six homes and led to evacuation orders. The fire, which started around 2:30 p.m. in the Little Mountain area near Beverly Drive, initially covered 5 acres but rapidly spread due to dry conditions and extreme heat, reaching 54 acres within hours. Firefighters managed to halt its progress later on, and by Tuesday morning, the blaze had burned 100 acres and was 75% contained.

Despite this progress, significant damage had already occurred. Footage showed several homes destroyed, with many more threatened by the flames. Damage assessments were set to begin on Tuesday morning, but officials could not yet confirm the total number of affected structures. One family reported losing their home and three dogs in the fire. Erika Hernandez expressed her heartbreak over the loss of her pets, saying the material possessions were less important than her dogs.

During the investigation, a person was briefly detained but later released without charges. The cause of the detention remains unclear. One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized. Evacuation orders remained in effect for residents in specified areas, including south of Ridge Line Drive and north of Edgehill Road, among others. An evacuation center was set up at Marshall Elementary. Approximately 200 firefighters, 40 engines, and three hand crews, with support from Riverside city and CalFire, were working to control the fire.
